Healthcare - Obama Administration (9/22/2011)

The Federal Court of Appeals is examining the Obama Healthcare Act where individuals without health insurance may have to pay a higher penalty. An argument has been made about individuals who believe in faith healing therefore do not have health insurance, but that argument was countered by suggesting that the government should provide incentives for individuals to have healthcare. The appeals court has not yet ruled on this dispute.

Tobacco Companies Dislike Graphic Warning Labels (9/19/2011)

The tobacco companies who filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on August 16th, 2011 are seeking a preliminary injunction against the agency barring it from enforcing regulations requiring new graphic warning labels on the products for the duration of the case as well as for 15 months after the trial ends. The companies claim that the new requirements violate the First Amendment by forcing the companies to take up the government's anti-smoking campaign by showing images that are meant to shock consumers into not buying the products.

Misleading Employment Stats for Graduates (9/15/2011)

Given the recent light on misleading job statistics, the American Bar Association is considering making law schools provide job statistics now. Many schools bragged about excellent job placement for their graduates, but graduating students found out differently. These statistics generally do not reflect a career in law and these students who graduated with so much debt are not forced to choose an alternative career path.

Law Firms and Social Media (9/13/2011)

Legal marketing is constantly evolving and it would could prove a major advantage to law firms to realize that they need to keep up with the modern world. Larger law firms may suffer a disadvantage by not accepting changes so readily and become stagnant by only keeping up with what their competitors are doing instead of what may be a better move for them. Firms need to listen more to the clients and use the social media that is out there to benefit their business.

Wrigley Field Watch Out (9/9/2011)

Vendors at Chicago stadiums are being held to a higher level when it comes to food being served. Starting with the very iconic Wrigley Field, the health department is doing inspections on days when food is being served instead of just non-game days. A spokesperson for Wrigley said that they take this business very seriously and training their employees on proper techniques is the highest priority. 

September 11 Memorial Becomes a Reality (9/7/2011)

For the past decade, Patrick White has been the leading force behind the construction of the memorial for the passengers and crew who died on the hijacked United Flight 93. While this project is being constructed in phases, the biggest hurdle has been land acquisition. Patrick White alone has spent more than 1,800 pro bono hours helping making the memorial become a reality. On September 10, Vice President Joe Biden and other officials will gather in the field to honor the passengers and crew with this memorial.
